If you couldn’t complete your school education or had no opportunity to attend school and you’d like to receive a formal qualification or improve your level of education you can enrol at a Community Learning Centre. You’ll receive a nationally recognised certificate and with this qualification, you can improve your chances of finding a suitable job. With an estimate of 3.1 million illiterate adults in South Africa, CET is available to help you as a young person or adult who would like to finish your education or improve your basic education by being equipped in reading, writing and numeracy skills. The General Education and Training Certificate (GETC), a formal qualification, is offered under the guidance of the Western Cape Community Education and Training College (WCCETC). The WCCETC works with Community Learning Centres to carry out training. The 4 levels of the GETC training are equivalent to Grades R to 9. CET includes training in:

These programmes are overseen by the Department of Higher Education and Training and are aligned to schools because most of them are hosted in (Department of Basic Education) DBE buildings.
