Taking budget to Swartland

23 November 2015

Minister Meyer’s “taking the budget to the people” campaign took another step closer to “the people” in the Swartland recently when he accompanied by Treasury economists, Malcolm Booysen and Dian Cronje presented the Western Cape Government’s 2015 budget with a particular focus on the Swartland region, to the special gathering of Councillors and members of the ward committees.

Swartland Municpality is considered to be one of the best run municipalities in the country. Major achievements include:

  • 5th clean audit
  • IMFO award for clean audit 2013/14
  • SALGA Excellence Award for Financial Management Audit Outcome 2013/14
  • 2nd Runner–up – Greenest Municipal Competition
  • 2015 Govan Mbeki Award – 1st Runner-up Integrated Residential Development

The Swartland Municipality, the second fastest growing municipality in the West Coast, maintained a 3.7% GDPR growth for the period 2005 to 2013. Payments and transfers totalling R2 413 296 has been allocated to the Swartland Municipality by the Western Cape Government in the 2015/16 financial year.

Minister Meyer highlighted that the Western Cape was operating in a tough economic environment which required fiscal discipline and consolidation. The Western Cape Government will however continue to celebrate success and the Swartland Municipality was “a story of success”.
