Dr Nomafrench Mbombo appointed for a second time as WC Minister of Health

Dr Nomafrench Mbombo is appointed as the Western Cape Minister of Health for a second term.

Prior to her entering the political arena, she had a successful academic career as associate professor, where her focus was placed on the provisioning of safe and appropriate healthcare to women and children in particular. She holds a PhD on Gender & Human rights, Master’s degree in maternal & child health, and a Bachelors’ degree in Nursing Science.

Dr Mbombo will continue to strengthen and upscale programmes she initiated in her previous term to ensure access to quality appropriate health services through the implementation of the following:

Universal Health Coverage

Universal Health Coverage as a concept will be piloted at various sites in the province through a whole of society approach, working in collaboration with other provincial government departments, different spheres of government, and the private sector.

Innovation

E-vision strategic plan to be rolled out across the province, of which cutting-edge medical technology and digital medicine is part thereof.

Ensuring Competent Health Staff

The Nursing college and EMS/ paramedic college to ensure the training of competent and responsive practitioners to appropriately respond to the burden of disease.

Emergency Medical Care

EMS Improvement Plan to meet the overstretched demand.

Health Infrastructure

R1,2 billion budgeted for this financial year to build new and maintain existing infrastructure.
