Paternoster clinic upgrading almost complete

A R4.8m Department of Transport and Public Works maintenance and upgrading project at the Paternoster Satellite Clinic is nearing completion. The building, which was previously shared by the local municipality and the clinic, has been repurposed as a clinic. When the project is complete, the facility will meet provincial Department of Health standards. Eighty per cent of the work – brickwork, plastering, painting and carpentry – was done by local labourers.

Key features of the upgraded facility include:

• a complete mechanical upgrade with new air conditioning;
• a complete electrical upgrade to statutory and departmental requirements;
• the construction of a new dry store, directly observed treatment (DOT) preparation room, sputum booth, bathroom for people with disabilities, women's bathroom, fire escape, sluice room, entrance stairs and ramp, paved parking area,
• and refuse cage with a paved walkway to the gate;
• extensions to the pharmacy/ medicine store; and
• new built-in cupboards in consulting room 1/ emergency room and consulting room 2.
