Gene Louw Traffic College in Brackenfell, Cape Town offers training in road traffic law enforcement for Traffic Officers (TO), Examiner for Driving Licences (EDL), Examiner of Vehicles (EOV), and various other Short Courses.

Prospective students can apply to the college, provided they meet the following admission requirements:

Traffic Officer Training Examiner for Driving Licences (EDL) Examiner of Vehicles (EOV)
  • Only Applications via Job advert from Western Cape Government will be accepted.
  • No Applications from Private Individuals (persons) will be accepted.
  • Permanent employment by local or provincial authority.
  • Grade 12 certificate or equivalent NQF level 4.
  • No criminal record.
  • Must be medically, physically, and mentally fit as well as competent to perform the applicable tasks and duties.
  • Code B driving licence (manual transmission). Learner’s licences will not be accepted.
  • Applicants must not be older than 35 years.
  • No Applications from Private Individuals (persons) will be accepted.
  • Permanent employment by local or provincial authority.
  • Grade 12 certificate.
  • No criminal record.
  • Applicable driving licence.

Different Grades are available for enrollment,

A, B, C, D, F, L.

All require specific driving licenses.

No driver’s licenses are required for Grades F and L.

Safely Home

The World Health “World Report on Road Traffic Injury” speaks about six recommendations that countries should follow to improve their road safety records and save lives.

It is on the basis of these recommendations that the Western Cape Government appointed the Department of Transport and Public Works to implement the Safely Home Programme.
