The Journey to Service Excellence (J2SE) programme focus on creating a culture of service excellence in the Paarl and Wellington area.  The J2SE Awards, held at the Nelson Wine Estate on Thursday, 24 October 2019, recognised and rewarded those who work passionately and with pride to deliver service excellence to those visiting Paarl and Wellington.

The awards event concluded the Journey to Service Excellence (J2SE) Programme, which ran from July to September 2019 in Paarl and Wellington, emphasising the importance of service excellence initiatives in the tourism value chain. The J2SE programme was a partnership between Western Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism, Drakenstein Municipality, Paarl and Wellington Tourism and the Drakenstein Business Chamber.  The J2SE programme was open to all businesses in Paarl and Wellington, and had three components – a 4-day series of service excellence workshops in which 151 beneficiaries took part and a leadership workshop in which 18 beneficiaries took part, a radio competition where people could nominate their service heroes and, finally, the J2SE awards.

Elzannes’ advice to other businesses who are striving towards service excellence is hard work, be a hands-on manager and a team member, work with your team, reward your staff for extra performance.  Elzanne has learned that It is important to take a breather when things get heated as once you say something you cannot take it back. It is important to enjoy what you are doing as guests notice when staff are happy which in turn can be good for your business.
