The Journey to Service Excellence Programme emphasised the importance of service excellence initiatives in the tourism value chain. This programme was open to all businesses in Langebaan or Saldanha - both tourism and non-tourism businesses. The programme aimed to develop a service excellence-orientated culture in organisations.
The programme had three components, namely a workshop component, a Radio competition where the Community of Langebaan and Saldanha and visitors to the area could nominate their Service Heroes and a Leadership workshop. A similar campaign had been implemented in Clanwilliam in 2016.
Visitors and locals from Saldanha and Langebaan had the opportunity to nominate any person from a business in these two towns who provided an excellent service as a Service Excellence Hero. The competition ran from 4 August to 8 September 2017 and seven Service Excellence Heroes were identified.
Mike Killian from the Total in Saldanha, the first identified Service Excellence Hero in the Journey to Service Excellence (J2SE) competition, has been announced as the overall winner of this competition.
