The Tygerberg Children's Hospital was opened in March 2000, after all the services for children at the hospital were combined. The hospital has 308 children's beds. Tygerberg Children's Hospital mostly serves the poor community within its geographical area. About half of the 2,4 million children living in the Western Cape need specialist medical care. The hospital also offers specialist care to areas of the Northern and Eastern Cape and supports paediatric care in other African countries. Every year, about 16 000 babies and children are admitted to TCH and more than 100 000 children receive specialist medical care as outpatients.
The Sarah Fox Children's Convalescent Hospital is a 60-bed facility based in Silvertown, Cape Town. It serves as the only convalescent hospital available to children in the Western Cape.
Maitland Cottage Home is a paediatric orthopaedic hospital which treats indigent patients from all over South Africa.
St Joseph's Home for Chronically Ill Children
St Joseph's Home is a private but state-funded home providing convalescent care and medical services for children who suffer from chronic and debilitating illnesses.

Childsafe is a campaign of the Child Accident Prevention Foundation of Southern Africa (CAPFSA) and Safe Kids Worldwide. It is a non-profit South African organisation promoting optimal health and development of all children under the age of 18.
Childsafe assists in reducing injuries of all severity through research, education, environmental change and recommendations for legislation.
