Sport Legends Awards 2015

The Western Cape Salutes its Sport Legends

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) is proud to acknowledge and honour legends, heroes and icons who have made a significant contribution to the development, transformation and growth of sport in South Africa and, more specifically, in the Western Cape.

DCAS will be hosting its next annual Sport Legends Ceremony in December 2015. This year the Sport Legends Awards will focus on all sporting codes and school sport (educators).

An invitation to submit nominations for a Sports Legends Award for those who comply with the following guidelines has been circulated to the local federations, regional sport councils and regional sport offices:

• People who made a significant contribution to sport over a lifetime, preferably over the age of 55, and preferably retired.
• People who are regarded as icons in their communities.
• People who played a role in shaping sport before 1992.
• People not previously recognised because of their gender, race or geographical location.

Nominations must be submitted on the prescribed nomination form, available from one of the contact persons listed below or online.

Closing date for nominations was 3 August 2015

Nominations will be reviewed by the Transformation and Monitoring Committee and submitted to the Selection Committee for adjudication. The Selection Committee consists of representative from regional sport councils; nominated media journalist(s), and nominated member(s) of the Western Cape sporting community. Decisions taken by the Selection Committee during the adjudication process are final.

DCAS continues to use sport to bring people from all walks of life together. As we unify the nation, we can work better together and leave a legacy for generations to come.
