Psychiatry Visits to patients in ward G22 and C23 may only take place after permission has been obtained from the Sister-in-Charge of the ward. (Typical visiting hours for ward G22 are 19:00 - 20:00 Mondays to Thursdays). |

It is strongly recommended that you know the ward where the patient is being treated, before attempting to visit. Groote Schuur is a large facility and without this information it's difficult to locate patients.
The main entrance is on Main Road, Observatory, Cape Town.
Exit ramps for the Hospital from the N2 and M5 are signposted.
Observatory Station is the closest railway station.
Busses and taxis run along Main Road, and stop near the Hospital.
Visitors parking is clearly marked and located within the hospital grounds, off Groote Schuur Road. Please note that there is a charge for using the parking.
The Groote Schuur Hospital complex is situated in Cape Town, South Africa against the backdrop of Devil's Peak. The complex consists of a number of buildings including the Maternity Block, the Outpatients Block, the Old Main Building (now housing mainly administrative and academic departments) and the Main Hospital (New Main Building). A staff residence, Rochester House, is located close by.
