The Western Cape Entrepreneurship Awards 2020
The annual Entrepreneurship Competition and Awards sets out to recognise and support the province’s most deserving and inspiring, high-potential entrepreneurs. It contributes towards increased entrepreneurship awareness and inculcates a culture of entrepreneurship. This prestigous virutal hybrid event took place on 26 November 2020, at the CTICC attended by well deserving entrepreneur winners, stakeholders and government officials.
The competition categories were:
- Emerging Business winner, Ansu Sooful: Aizatron provides consulting, software development, robotics, automation, API management, artificial intelligence and data analytics services. We strive to educate and grow skills in new industrial solutions so that we ensure our region can participate in the new economy by becoming a meaningful contributor rather than a consumer of technology. Our business is built on developing solutions to solve real world problems.
- Women-owned Business winner, Ntombi Nonxuba: Rise Uniforms is a manufacturer and supplier of superior quality uniforms, corporate wear and complementary garments. All products are manufactured locally as per the client's specifications. The company has an established record of consistently supplying and delivering uniforms to well-known brands such as Pick n Pay. Located in the Philippi area, the company is managed and owned by Ntombekaya (Ntombie) Nonxuba, has operating since 2007 and was formally registered in 2010 trading as Rise Uniforms and currently employs 46 people from the surrounding township area.

- Social Enterprise Business winner, Llewellyn Scholtz: Genesis Community IT Initiative (Genesis CITI) is an educational social enterprise (non-profit organization) that focuses on access to broadband as free Wi-Fi internet, adoption of technology and the empowerment of digital skills. Genesis CITI positions itself as a Digital Skills Accelerator whereby the unemployed youth and existing workforce are upskilled and certified to become relevant within the 4th Industrial Revolution. Genesis CITI regards itself as a technology vehicle for social and economic change in marginalized communities.
- Innovative Business winner, Ray de vries: Air Water™ is an innovative consultancy and management company covering all aspects of atmospheric water generation. We specialise in system solution design, supply of pre-engineered and custom-made systems, project management, financing and specialised projects. We are specialists in containerized atmospheric water generation plants, fixed bottling plant solutions as well as mobile solutions.
- Township business winner, Abigail Mbalo: 4Roomed™ opened its doors as a concept restaurant in the heart of Khayelitsha in December 2016. A lifestyle concept based on the four roomed homes found in the oldest townships of SA. 4Roomed celebrates life through great food, beautiful home decor and art. Our innovation is to put a gourmet twist to the concepts of SA Townships and we have had the opportunity to cook all over the world to attract international market to travel to South Africa.
- Youth-owned Business winner, Sebastian Daniels: Ground Culture was founded in early 2018 by Sebastian Daniels as a platform to develop and grow support for entrepreneurs. It is an Online Store promoting local products made by local entrepreneurs. The platform share stories of the product/s and the local small businesses or entrepreneurs. The Store offers over 75 products that are naturally farmed, priced competitively and cheaper than major retailers. From coffee, Kombucha, nuts, seeds, GMO-free grains and legumes, bread, snacks and more, including vegan/vegetarian, gluten, sugar and wheat-free options. Made by local Cape Town & Khayelitsha-based entrepreneurs including; Camissa Coffee, Culture Lab, Flora House, Homemade, Queen of Chai, Reivo Food, Sikis, Spinach King and Ubusi Honey. Ground Culture reinvests 10% of all profits into the businesses they work with.
