36 Suspects sniffed out by Swartland, Overstrand and Mossel Bay K-9 and Rural Safety Units

The Mossel Bay, Overstrand and Swartland K-9 Units, in partnership with the Rural Safety Units (RSUs) in the Overstrand and Swartland areas, once again conducted multiple crime fighting operations in their respective areas. Between 19 and 25 February 2024, these units with various other municipal law enforcement agencies and the South African Police Service, arrested thirty-six (36) individuals for a number of crimes. Of these, six (6) were arrested in Mossel Bay, twenty (20) were apprehended in the Overstrand municipal area, and ten (10) in the Swartland. 

The Mossel Bay K-9 unit had various operations in Kwanonqaba, JCC Camp, Mossel Bay CBD, along with roadblocks in hotspot areas. Of the six arrests, three (3) were for selling expired goods in their spaza shops. 
 
The Swartland units had operations in the broader Malmesbury, Riebeek Valley, and Moorreesburg. Individuals were arrested on the following charges: 

-    x1 for residential burglary;
-    x2 possession of stolen property;
-    x4 dealing in liquor; and 
-    x3 possession of drugs.

The units also confiscated:

-    x2 packets of tik; 
-    large quantity of liquor; and
-    x3 quarter and x2 half mandrax tablets.  

Amongst others the Overstand arrests included:

-    x2 for possession of drugs; and
-    x18 wanted suspects. 

This unit confiscated:

-    x17 mandrax tablets;
-    x6 bankies tik;  
-    x19 units of whole abalone,
-    x16 West Coast Rock Lobster (WCRL) and 
-    x2 WCRL tails
