Anti-Crime Blitz on Metrorail Trains

Minister Ramatlakane was accompanied by Provincial Commissioner Mzwandile Petros, senior police officials and newly appointed Head of the Railway Police Unit, Superintendent Goss.

Bambanani Neighbourhood Watch train volunteers and Metrorail police were also part of the operation that started at the Khayelitsha station.

Minister Ramatlakane said," This operation is in line with our Safer Festive Season Programme to make our people feel safe wherever they are.

"Therefore our trains must also be made safe for our people to commute on. Today is the last day of the month and the year, and therefore our law enforcement agencies, led by Provincial Commissioner Petros, will be on full alert on the trains and they will be highly visible to ensure that commuters arrive at their homes safely with their belongings intact."

The operation will continue throughout the day along the railway lines of Mitchell's Plain, the Southern Suburbs, and the route from Cape Town to Wellington.
