Celebrate Heritage month with a Heritage Hunt

The Western Cape Government will be hosting a Heritage Hunt across the province as a way to encourage communities to be part of the Heritage Month celebrations.

The Hunt will be on across the whole province, and nine sites have been chosen where people can go to collect clues from a secret spot. The nine sites are:

•Cape Medical museum

• Old Harbour museum (Hermanus)

• Oudtshoorn museum

• George museum

• Dias museum (Mossel Bay)

• Worcester museum

• Moorreesburg museum

• Swartberg Nature Reserve

• Anysberg Nature Reserve

Anyone who wishes to participate can visit any of the sites listed above, find the hidden password and enter via the Western Cape Government website at www.westerncape.gov.za/heritage-hunt . The first prize in the competition will be a weekend away at the Anysberg Nature Reserve in the Karoo (sponsored by Cape Nature).

There are many Heritage sites across the province and the Western Cape Government encourages citizens to explore their heritage. Anroux Marais, Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, encourages citizens of the Western Cape to participate: “It is important for us to celebrate our rich and diverse heritage. We need to preserve the heritage of our province for future generations to see where we have come from and to understand where we are going.” she said.

What you need to do to enter:

• Choose one or more of the participating museums or nature reserves (listed below)and  enter the co-ordinates into your GPS or phone to make your way to your chosen location. (the Google Maps app is free).
• Visit the museum or nature reserve you’ve selected.
• Locate  the secret password hidden somewhere inside or around each heritage site by using the clue found on the Heritage Hunt webpage.

Complete your competition entry with the password you’ve collected and submit the form.

You can also win a prize by sharing a photograph of yourself taken at any of our Provincial Heritage Sites located in and around the Western Cape.
