DCAS Aids Development Cyclists to Compete in Europe

On Thursday, 12 May 2016, Minister Anroux Marais presented flight confirmations to two development cyclists who are getting ready to leave for London to compete in the London-Paris and Alpine Challenges in Europe at the end of May.

Thulasizwe Mxenge from Khayelitsha and Marco Abrahams from Belhar were selected by the HotChillee Development Rider Programme to compete in the European event. The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) assisted the two riders with funding for their airfares. They will be leaving on 24 May  and will spend a month of intensive training in Aigle, Switzerland before competing in the London-Paris Cycle Challenge.

Minister Marais wished the two riders well for the upcoming event: “I am so proud of you and am excited for the journey that you are going to undertake. My department is happy to be supporting young, talented sportspeople in achieving new heights in their sport.” she said.

DCAS supports young sporting talent. Young people should be motivated to take part in sport and to excel. Let us continue to grow an active, healthy province BETTER TOGETHER.
