First Thursday focus on reducing food waste

1 November 2017

Over 30% of the food produced in South Africa each year is wasted.

These figures from the World Wildlife Fund show the extent of food waste in the country. At the same time, 26% of South African households are going hungry.

This First Thursday, the latest solutions to reducing food waste will be showcased at the Ministry of Economic Opportunities.

Alan Winde, Minister of Economic Opportunities, and GreenCape are partnering for the exhibition, which focuses on adding value to post consumer organic/food waste.

Entrepreneurs will be exhibiting new technologies in this industry. Residents will also have the opportunity to discuss their business ideas with Minister Winde.
