Media Alert: Minister Marais Learns To Surf To Raise Awareness on Water Safety

Tomorrow, 4 November 2015, the Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, will launch the “Water Safety Awareness through Aqua Sport” initiative at Strandfontein Pavillion.

At the launch, Minister Marais will be taught to surf by Caleb Swanepoel, the 20 year old who survived a shark attack at Buffels Bay, and Nigel Savel, founder of the 9Miles Project.

Minister Marais will also engage with the youth in the area to raise awareness on water safety and decreasing the high number of drowning incidents in the Western Cape.

The 9Miles Project is a youth and community development Non-Profit Organisation that uses surfing and swimming as a platform for transformation, focusing on vulnerable youth in Cape Town.
