The Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport will be hosting its annual Provincial Sport Awards on the 12 March 2005 at the Poduim Hall, Cape Town Civic Center. Guests include the National Minister of Sport and Recreation, Mr Stofile, Western Cape Premier Mr Ebrahim Rasool and the MEC for Culture and Sport in the Western Cape, Mr Chris Stali.
This year's event promises to be different from the rest. Different in the sense that we have had three regional sport awards already at Boland, SWD and Metro. The winners of the regional sport awards are automatically entered into the Provincial Sport Awards. There will be three nominees in each catergory but only one winner. Catergories include Sports Man and Sports Women of the year for abled and disable people, Lifetime Achiever and an award for the media, to mention a few.
The MEC of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Mr Chris Stali says, "Awards such as these are imperative in honouring and celebrating our sport stars in the Western Cape. The talent in our Province is growing continuously, we must encourage the Federations to continue to develop athletes to be true ambassadors for our Province and country."
