Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Anroux Marais, has instructed the Court Watching Brief Unit within the department to monitor the court case of five people arrested in Khayelitsha on Monday night. It is alleged that the suspects were involved in a planned cash-in-transit robbery.
“Following the commendable actions by the South African Police Services (SAPS) and its partners, the criminal justice system must now swiftly take its course. The department’s Court Watching Briefs Unit will help monitor the case to ensure that justce is done and that nothing falls between the cracks,” Minister Marais said.
The Court Watching Brief Unit is an initiative of the Western Cape Government to enhance its ability to perform oversight of the SAPS as mandated by Section 206(3) of the Constitution.
