Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, is deeply saddened by the death of magnificent and incomparable actress, Aletta Bezuidenhout, at the age of 76 years this morning.
Minister Marais said, “Aletta Bezuidenhout was a leading light of South African theatre. She was spectacular in front of the movie cameras. I will never forget her powerful acting in the Afrikaans translation of Bertolt Brecht’s Mutter Mut und ihre Kinder. It was a tour de force – tough theatre, and brilliant. Her ability to bring any character to life with her immense talent has left a legacy on South African film and theatre. I extend my heartfelt condolences to her family and friend during this difficult time.”
