MOD and CP Nel Museum hosts camp to uplift learners in Eden

28 March 2017

Sixty learners from the Eden District attended an Exhibition Camp at the Schoemanspoort Cultural Facility from 24 to 25 March 2017. The Mass participation; Opportunity and access; Development and growth (MOD) Programme of the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) partnered with the CP Nel Museum in Oudtshoorn to host the camp.

Gamka-Oos Primary School in Calitzdorp, Dysselsdorp Primary School in Dysselsdorp, Fezekile Secondary School and Bongolethu Primary School in Oudtshoorn participated in the camp. These schools are also MOD Centres where leaners are coached in various sport codes as well as the arts such as dance, drama and music.

According to Sicelo Ngxanga, MOD Centre Coordinator in the Eden region, learners were treated to a jam-packed camp programme where they participated in sporting and arts and cultural activities. Staff from the CP Nel Museum also shared some interesting information regarding the Heritage of the Khoi San in the province. After nightfall, learners had the opportunity to go star gazing.

“This camp provided leaners from different schools with the opportunity to interact with each other. They could also showcase the talents they developed at their respective MOD Centres,” said Ngxanga.

DCAS encourages youth to attend these camps to gain leadership and life skills. We empower our youth and invest in the leaders of tomorrow - BETTER TOGETHER.
