Media Release: Premier welcomes official announcement of the opening of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament
Premier Alan Winde welcomes the announcement by Speaker of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament (WCPP), Daylin Mitchell, that the opening of the sixth session will be held on Monday, 19 February in Paarl.
In previous years the opening of Parliament has been held in Mitchells Plain, Genadendal, and Velddrif. “We are bringing the Western Cape Government (WCG) and the WCPP closer to our citizens who are at the very centre of all we do. We remain committed to keep serving our residents better,” said Premier Winde.
The opening of the Provincial Parliament will also see the Premier deliver the 2024 State of the Province Address (SOPA). He will use the occasion to report back to the people of the Western Cape on progress made by the WCG over the term in delivering on its priorities of reducing load shedding, growth for jobs, safety, dignity, and wellbeing.
Premier Winde will also lay out how the provincial government intends to build on its successes by ensuring residents' and businesses' needs are supported throughout 2024. He noted, “This year we will still have to face and address many of the same challenges we confronted in 2023. We must maintain our resolve and intensify our efforts to keep growing our economy, enabling more jobs to be created and making our communities safer, so that our residents can live in dignity. I look forward to working with Speaker Mitchell and members of the provincial parliament who play an important role in governing our province.”
