The City of Cape Town has compiled a Draft Women Empowerment and Gender Equality Policy. The main purpose of this policy framework is to establish a clear vision and mainstreaming guidelines for the City of Cape Town for the development of services, policies, procedures and practices based on equality between women and men.
Further, it suggests the development of specific interventions to meet the practical
and strategic needs of women in order to ensure the empowerment of women as a step towards gender equality.
The policy is meant to cover employees of the City of Cape Town as well as the residents' of the City.
As part of public participation, a series of consultation sessions on the draft Gender Policy are being undertaken in order to receive feedback on the proposals.
