The Department of Transport and Public Works has started to reseal a 40 km length of the R27 between Yzerfontein and Langebaan. This road infrastructure project, valued at R84 million, is scheduled for completion in mid-2016.
Up to 5 700 vehicles a day travel on this stretch of road which was last refurbished in 2003. Work will include repairs to potholes, cracks, and storm water drainage structures.
General Traffic Management
There will be half-width construction with stop/ go operations during the day and a traffic light system at night. No more than 3 km of road will be closed at a time.
Possible Delays
Motorists can expect weather-related delays. Waiting times at road closures should not be more than 10 minutes.
Economic Impact and Job Creation
A total of 8 000 person-days will be created for local labour from the Swartland Municipality. Ten percent of the contract value is expected to go towards targeted enterprises in the Western Cape.
