The Western Cape Minister of Finance, Deidré Baartman, is pleased to confirm that all 14 Western Cape Government (WCG) departments and its 11 entities have achieved unqualified audits for the 2023/24 financial year. This is the second consecutive year that all the WCG’s departments and entities have achieved these outstanding outcomes.
“The audit outcomes are a testament to the WCG’s commitment to financial discipline and good governance. This is because we know that service delivery to our residents depends on ensuring that every cent is spent diligently and responsibly,’ said Minister Baartman.
There is a clear and direct correlation between good governance and service delivery. WCG initiatives such as the Safety Plan, the SMME Booster Fund, the Procurement Client Centre, Red-tape Reduction Unit and SWIMS App, are all supported by strong financial management. These initiatives, designed to enhance the lives of Western Cape residents, can thrive because of the Province’s relentless commitment to financial discipline.
“Thank you to each and every official of our government who has taken our values of accountability and integrity to heart in ensuring we spend taxpayers’ money to improve the lives of all our residents, especially the most vulnerable. As a resident obsessed government our commitment towards good governance is non-negotiable. If we build and maintain fiscal discipline across our departments and entities, we ensure that every cent is spent in the best interest of residents. I urge our WCG family to keep working as meticulously as they have to maintain our proud track record of good governance,” Premier Winde said.
These audit outcomes are also crucial, considering the ongoing national fiscal crisis. The Western Cape, now more than ever, must position itself as a reliable partner that fosters confidence for future investment. Dependence on traditional government funding is no longer a guarantee to ensuring sustainable growth.
“Diversifying the WCG’s revenue streams through attracting international investment, international partnerships, and private sector participation will be vital for the province’s long-term fiscal resilience. This is why good audit outcomes matter - because strong financial governance attracts investment,” said Minister Baartman.
Minister Baartman continued, “I want to congratulate the officials within every provincial department and entity on these outcomes. These audit results have again demonstrated the culture of responsible and transparent financial management within the WCG administration.
