The Provincial Disaster Management Team is currently at the scene of the Maersk "Sealand Express" which has been blown ashore in the vicinity of Sunset Beach in Milnerton. We are monitoring the situation .
We have received the following reports from the District Municipalities.
Boland District Municipality
All mountain passes in the vicinity of Ceres are closed due to heavy snow. Some vehicles were trapped in the Trompbergpass and the municipality is assisting in this regard.
In some areas roads were closed due to heavy rains and flooding.
Overberg District Municipality
Due to heavy sea currents the mouth of the Kleinrivier has been blocked and the river is overflowing its banks which might pose a threat to Stanford. No houses have been flooded yet.
West Coast District Municipality
No reports have been received of wind damage or flooding. The Saldanha Municipality is however monitoring the high waves at Langebaan and they have the necessary contingency plans in place should the waves pose a threat to houses.
Central Karoo District Municipality
No rain or wind damage has been reported.
Eden District Municipality
No rain or wind damage has been reported. It is however still raining in the area and rivers are being monitored.
