Traffic Bursary Awarded to Gene Louw Traffic College Graduate

The exceptional potential of Provincial Inspector Marcelle Moses was recognised by the Department of Safety and Security Management at Tshwane University of Technology. Inspector Moses was chosen to receive a R7 000 bursary for the first year of study towards the NDRY03 National Diploma in Road Traffic Management. She will be doing the course in 2015 by means of distance learning.

Inspector Moses was the best student in the 2013 Basic Traffic Officer’s Course at Gene Louw Traffic College in Brackenfell, Cape Town. The Department of Transport and Public Works praised her for making the Western Cape proud.

Kenny Africa, Provincial Traffic Chief says this study opportunity will boost her career aspirations and it reflects on the high standards of traffic law enforcement in the province.

“Inspector Moses has a bright future ahead of her and she is a potential leader in traffic policing and management. We are confident that she will grab this opportunity and make the most of it,” said Mr Africa.

Inspector Moses (30), from Somerset West, currently works at the N2 weighbridge where she conducts vehicle and driver fitness tests.

“I’m elated and I’m proud of this achievement. To graduate as best student at the traffic college this year inspired me to dream big as I love law enforcement. I’m hoping to complete my diploma cum laude,” she said.

Shortly before the graduation ceremony in June this year, Inspector Moses suffered a horrific knee injury, but this didn’t stop her. “My mother, who is ill, my husband and my children, one of whom has autism, motivated me to finish the course. Facilitators at the college also guided me throughout the year, and I’m so grateful for that.”

Inspector Moses hopes to become a facilitator at the Gene Louw Traffic College one day, as she enjoys educating people about the importance of road safety. Her achievements highlight the professional and effective traffic management service that the Department provides in the Western Cape.
