Visit to school building sites by Provincial Ministers Dugmore and Skwatsha

Following a visit to various school building sites by Provincial Ministers of Transport and Public Works Mcebisi Skwatsha, and Education Cameron Dugmore, yesterday, Minister Dugmore has expressed satisfaction at the progress being made, despite some problems.

He said he was encouraged at the involvement of members of the community and their understanding for the problems being experienced by the building process.

However, he has expressed his "confidence", that the contractor Magaqwa Contractors, will complete the building of the new schools in Mfuleni, Delft, Kalkfontein and Du Noon, in time.

Provincial Minister Dugmore undertook to approach the Western Cape Education Foundation to see whether they can assist with the planting of tress and laying of grass, so that the schools can be more habitual upon completion.

Said Mr Dugmore: "Clearly we have to think out of the box if we are to meet the broader challenges we face, and therefor we are investigating public private partnership initiatives, schools building classrooms themselves, and the speeding up of the sale of underutilised and unused school land.

"I am particularly excited to involve the community volunteers and departmental officials in the building of eight new classrooms in Manzomtombo High School (Mfuleni) and three classrooms in Brandwacht Primary School (near Mossel Bay)."
