Background Information

The Voluntary Aid Service of Tygerberg Hospital (TBH) was formally formed on 28 February 1974. In April 1977 the Voluntary Aid Service received official recognition from the Executive Committee of the Provincial Administration. A Benevolent Fund was started during 1977 and in 1978 the first patients were helped from this fund. During 1983 an amount of R 2 211,48 was allocated to assist 51 patients and their families who were experiencing financial distress.

Mission

  • Support and assist the professional staff
  • Encourage and stimulate the interest of the public and hospitals
  • Provide or assist in the provision of amenities, facilities and equipment required for the health, welfare and comfort of the patients.
  • Assist poor patients in financial distress

Purpose

Our main purpose is to:

  • Ease the patients' stay in hospital
  • Improving the working environment of the staff at Tygerberg Hospital
  • Boost staff morale

75% of our profit goes into the hospital mainly to emergency relief and special projects.

  • Hairdressing services
  • Shop Trolley Services
  • Tea Services
  • A Benevolent Fund

Anybody between the age of 18 - 80 are invited to join the Voluntary Aid services
