Broadband competition finalists

The Western Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDAT) is driving and coordinating the development of long-lasting broadband infrastructure and services across the Western Cape.

In August 2015 the public were invited to enter a competition to stand a chance to win R2 000 by sharing an inspiring story about how using the internet improved their lives or business.

We have received several entries and have narrowed it down to 3 finalists. We want you to decide who deserves to win by voting for your favourite story. 

 

Ayanda Mateza:

Growing up in a small village, Ayanda had little exposure to the internet. In Cape Town she learnt how to use a computer at a local library with assistance and was able to access accessed the internet. She used the internet to register on the internet for a learnership as a computer end-user and was accepted.

The internet changed her life by not only exposing her to an opportunity to improve her skills, but it also opened up the whole world to her. Now she can be in touch with all the latest international news and trends. The internet has allowed her access to communicate with people all over the world and broaden her experience.

Thobeka Yose:

After being unemployed for 2 years, Thobeka who has a passion for writing was browsing a Facebook page she liked. She discovered that they were looking for writers for an international magazine that was going to launch in South Africa.

She sent them her work and was accepted. The internet helped Thobeka to be aware of opportunities in her field of interest and now her writing will be read internationally.

France Nyambi:

As a Student and entrepreneur, France is using the internet to access different marketing tools like social media and marketing websites to reach his clients. The internet makes it possible for him to use his time effectively and to stay be in touch with his clients in an eco-friendly way.

He can balance his student and business life with the help of the internet and hopes to be an inspiration for other young people.
