The Department of Transport and Public Works offers an apprenticeship programme to prepare students for the working world.

The Department can also employ apprentices once qualified as artisans. They are recognised and covered by the Occupation Specific Dispensation (OSD) if offered this opportunity. In this case, artisans are eligible for higher posts and higher grades in current posts.

The Better Living Challenge is a design competition which was launched in March 2014 calling for green and affordable products, systems and services, to improve the homes of people living in low-income communities.

The Better Living Challenge (BLC) is one of the Western Cape Government’s (WCG) projects, proudly hosted by the Department of Human Settlements and the Department of Economic Affairs and Tourism. The project aims to assist residents with self-build skills and knowledge.

1. Is it envisaged that the Department will work with one service provider or a set of service providers?

The department is seeking to contract with one service provider. The Terms of Reference, specifies that one service provider is invited to bid and that each service provider can submit a single bid under:
