On 17 July 2012 Bonnytoun celebrated its first year at the new location in De Novo. Mr Trevor Fourie, the facility manager for Bonnytoun addressed the audience and shared inspiring words with the audience. "Boys join gangs because they don't belong to a gang called family. Boys you are fundamentally good and beautiful even though your choices have not been. Work on yourself and dare to dream".
Mr Fourie mentioned the programmes offered at Bonnytoun. One of the exciting future programmes is a hospitality programme which is in the developmental phase at present. Bonnytoun is working in consultation with Route 66, service provider, to develop the programme and present it at the facility. Amidst the festivities a young wise soul emerged by the name of John Witbooi. The 13 year old primary school learner entertained the audience through song but more importantly his words of wisdom. John shared these words of wisdom with the clients of Bonnytoun, "Ons elkeen het mekaar nodig, kyk uit vir 'n beter môre en oormôre. Jou toekoms is in jou hande. Jou drome kan waar word jy moet net daaraan werk."
On behalf of the Department of Social Development we would like to wish the staff and clients of Bonnytoun a very happy first year anniversary at the new location.
