Two Oceans Academy Visit - 22 February 2012

2016
(Western Cape Government)

A German delegation of the Catholic University of Munich, was escorted to the Two Oceans Academy in Ruyterwacht by MEC Albert Fritz, Western Cape Minister of Social Development, where the youth were practising their soccer skills during training. The academy strives to encourage youth from disadvantaged, drug and crime ridden communities to live healthy and drug free lives using football as a vehicle to reach this goal.

In addition to the sporting development, lifeskills opportunities are presented to the youth, via drug awareness, referral programmes, mentorship etc. The academy has identified 9 areas in which this programme will be implemented namely: Gugulethu, Hanover Park, Houtbay, Khayelitsha, Manenberg, Mitchells Plain, Nomsamo, Ocean View and Stellenbosch.

"We reward excellence not failure," said Minister Fritz. He also commented that there are plans to partner with Artscape to incorporate hip hop dancing, singing and drama into the programme.
