On the 24th of January 2012, Western Cape Minister of Social Development, Albert Fritz, visited Tehillah Community Centre in Elsies River with a specific focus on youth and the current drug crisis in that community. In addressing the audience the Minister said, “It’s encouraging to see drug abuse programmes working but more social workers are needed at such facilities. Currently the centre has one social worker, a psychologist, two registered nurses, and day and night staff. The department allocates R2.7 million to the centre annually. CEO of Tehillah Community Centre Magda Kleyn took MEC Fritz around the facility to show him the current renovations currently done by the centre. The centre is facing a challenge with space and availability as people queue to access their facilities. |
