China Town is fulfilling the promise of involving itself on a longer sustainable development programme in terms of impact on the lives of families they serve, rather than as a once-off event. Despite the unfavourably windy weather on Sunday the 21 of October 2012, China Town went out to hand over food parcels to beneficiaries. This initiative, known as the Winter Programme, is done in partnership with the Department of Social Development and it is the second phase of food parcels handed to beneficiaries. Addressing the audience, the Chief Director for Service Delivery Mr Mzwandile Hewu said, "The department realises that only through partnership will government be able to address the needs and concerns of communities' vulnerable families. The department appreciates the initiative shown by China Town". Ms Soraya Abrahams, the department's Regional Director for Metro North thanked the China Town and the departmental team for their dedication to making the partnership event successful. |
